Unforgiven !

Just in case anyone wonders why the Dinosaur foams at the mouth when talking about Flatlanders or Comp cams, heres why.....the shop were I have been working built an engine with a comp cam- it was eating dizzy gears in as little as 30 minutes each. We tried 2 steel gears, 2 iron gears, and 2 bronze gears. Comp kept telling us that we did something wrong. After we called tham the 6th time, they finally admitted that they had some cams that had incorrectly ground drive gears on them. We have since heard of lots of other people having the same trouble. How many did they make that way ? 10 ? 100 ? 1000 ? How did all those cams get past quality control ? or does Comp have a QC dept ? And Flatlanders- those guys were telling one of our board members to use badger pistons ( from Flatlander's ) in a built up 428. Badger makes some really low-budget cast pistons, I wouldn't use them in anything. Flatlander told the guy that the TRW-SpeedPro forgings weren't available anymore. I called my supplier that same day and was told I could get L2245Fs and L2303Fs in 2 or 3 days, no problem. And Ross and Venolia and JE and Arias will make any piston you want. Does Flatlander even know woho these manufacturers are ? Unforgivable ! There are plenty of good parts available for FEs, and there are people who know where to get them- but none of these people work for Comp or Flatlanders. You are strictly getting my opinion here, but the wrong parts or advice could be very exspensive. DF

Hi DF!

I don't know about Flatlander but I do know of people having problems with Comp Cams off and on for quite a few years now that I would never buy a Comp Cam for myself.

It believe it was a budget buildup but he was wanting quite a bit of performance. In my mind it wansn't the best recommendation. I would never recommend taking shortcuts on the bottom end. JMHO
