Need to replace dead cluster
Recently the cluster on my 2003 Mountaineer has gone dead, also causing my radio and windows to go with it. I took it to my local dealership and was told that it would be about $700 to fix.
After looking up the cost of replacement clusters and reading many of your posts about replacing your own clusters it seems to me that $700 may be a lot more than it needs to be. Would a brand new cluster be necessary or would a used cluster, say from ebay or something, suffice? Is the conversion from one to another complicated? Is there a lot of reprogramming involved?
I have no problems putting in extra effort to save some money as long as it will fix my problems and keep my Mountaineer running as good as ever. Any insight that you guys may have would be a great help to me.
Thanks,
Dan
