Anyone who has driven the same lengthy route a number of times can appreciate how BORED I was. Just got back from my annual deer hunting trek to WNY. The trip is just under 400 miles. I have driven it probably 100 times between small game, turkey, deer, fish and bear seasons -- not to mention the trips for just seeing my family.
As I was coming back this time, I saw a number of hunters still parked on the sides of the road. I decided to start counting the number that of them that were Fords. Chevy, Dodge, etc. I also counted any I saw on the road, along with any I saw in people's driveways. I missed a few because I couldn't get a good look at them (divided highways, too far away, etc.).
Granted this was a Monday and a number were probably hidden in company parking lots, but this is what I counted:
281 Fords -- mostly F150s. I only saw THREE 2011 models. I suspect this was due to the demographics of the area -- depressed. SDs accounted for about 40% of the total.
209 Chevys -- surprisingly, most were newer models. The majority of them who were on a hunting trip had an all terrain on the back. Much less so for Fords.
Dodge, Toyota, etc. -- I gave up counting them after the first 100 trucks I counted. There just weren't a lot of them. In total, based on my original count and applying this ratio, I believe there were less than 75.
What I found interesting was that there were a lot more older Fords on the roads than Chevys. Also noted that hunters seemed to prefer the Fords over Chevys -- by about 25%. More Fords were enlisted in service as company trucks and farmers seemed to prefer Chevys.
Where in WNY ? I'm originally from Tonawonda. We have a hunting camp in Wellsville.. WNY is GM country. Harrison rad. Tonawanda eng. Delevan axle. i always saw more Fords on the road when I lived there.

I was in between 3 sites. Medina, Attica and near Indian Crossing, PA. Heading out of WNY it was more Chevy oriented but that changed as I got closer to the PA border.
I take it you live in Tampa now? I grew up in West Seneca near Rich Stadium (have a problem calling it "The Ralph" -- although a lot of people do ralph at the games )

miss Mighty Taco and the beef on weck. It will always be Rich Stadium. I've done the Ralph LOL
Market penetration stats are already available and confirm Marauder's seat-of-the-pants experiment. Ford HD's are over 50% of the market. Chev and Dodge fight for the other half.
What was funny was that the Chevy's were in the lead by about 20 or so until I got to the last 100 miles and then then Fords came pouring in... I knew I picked a good place to live
Another observation was that at the used car dealers I saw (trucks get the front row in farm country), I noticed a 2:1 ratio of Chevy to Fords (I didn't count these in my stats -- otherwise I would have ended up rear ending someone )
I was camping at the Port Orange KOA in FL last week. (Mon-Sat) There were a LOT of folks from Quebec and New Brusnwick, most did not speak English well. I was fairly saddened to see that myself and 2 other guys were driving Ford SD's. All the rest were fairly new GM trucks with less than new fifth wheel campers.
I was the only '11. The KOA was nearly full, about 50% seasonal Canadiens, 40% regional folks for the hot rod "Turkey Run" at Daytona speedway. The more local folks all had GM or Dodge diesels. I was pretty lonely but darn proud to be the stealthy 6.7 that would smoke 'em all!
1400 miles round trip from KC, MO to the Canadian border in MN for turkey last week. 64 2011 SD's, all colors, toppers, lift kits 250, 350, work trucks. Great to see so many big chrome double-bar grills! Many many more Fords in general than anything else.
It made it easy to pick them out, didn't it. The work trucks were a little challenging with their black grills.
Sure did! Yes, the black grills were tough, had to default to the badging on the hood/fender. Also, the 6.7 splash on the door helped a few times.
