I just saw someone mention replacing their wheel bearings in their 4x4... I thought the whole hub had to be replaced. If not, anybody got any info and pictures on that? My hubs are going South and it'd be sweet if I didn't have to buy a whole entire hub! Thanks, fellas!
Being that you have an early 99, I believe there are specific bearing/hubs you have to use.
Never heard of using the 05-up hubs on an earlier truck though.
You can get just the timken bearing itself from napa, but the outer race is machined into the hub, so If yours are already going south, I don't think a new bearing would last long before you are in the same situation. If you had the time for your truck to be down or had a spare set of hubs, you can order the matching race for that bearing and have the hub machined out to fit the race and from then on out have a serviceable front hub, which is what I'm doing with my spare worn-out set.
I'm not sure on the 05+ hubs other than the lug pattern is different, I've never had the 2 side by side to measure and compare.
Yessir, same thing in other words, but if you take a little bit of time and find a machine shop to do it, you'll spend what one hub costs instead of $2k for the dynatrac

Anybody done it yet? I'd like to go with that instead of another sealed hub... what bearings should I use? How do I pick them out? Got any numbers, threads, links, etc?
Nobody has that I'm aware of. I am planning on having it machined out for the race, as well as drilled and tapped for a grease zerk to be able to grease the bearing directly instead of through the abs hole. I don't have the numbers right off hand, I will dig them up for you.
I've read on here some were that if you go with 2002 hubs they interchange and have the later bearing which are cheaper,
Yeah, I had heard that too... I think they're going South as now I've noticed a harmonic drone as I drive and it's NOT the same pitch as my tires humming.
Cory, have you got any part numbers yet? Also, how would I go about holding the hub onto the spindle? How does the stock one stay on? I'm assuming it'd have to be machined so that a snap ring could be used, right?
