remote start

I have a 2005 f150 and want to get a remote start for it. I have been looking around at best buy, car toys, etc. I have been quoted $350ish from each place. A bit more than I thought and want to spend. They say unless you know what your doing it should be done by the professionals. Anybody know of a place to get the by-pass modual or the remote system at a discounted prices to help save $$? Also, any suggestions for brands or brands to stay away from? thanks

Only suggestion I have is to make sure you get a two-way starter. It's really great to have your remote confirm that your truck actually started when you are out of Line-of-sight.

SeventySeven is right, having knowledge that your truck fired up is nice, but then again usually costs a bit more.

I know that around here most of the car audio places do the installs of remote start. Can you do it yourself? Sure, but do you have the time/patience/know-how?

The price you threw out seems reasonable to what I looked into also.
Good luck!

Look around and you can find them pretty cheap. I got an Ungo (made by DEI, just about all brands can be traced back to a DEI factory) Two-way LCD unit with a 1 mile range from Frys last year for under $100. I got a bypass module off ebay for around $20.

I've installed 2 of these on my rigs; one I paid to have installed and 1 I did myself. I will install another unit on the wifes Expedition over Christmas. It is a decent job and requires some homework prior to starting. When I installed one on my F150 and I tried it the first time the windshield wipers started. Why you ask? Because Ford has a habit of putting like colored wires into the same harness with the only difference being gauge. A 20 gauge green/orange wire looks exactly like an 18 gauge wire of the same color when you're contorted under the dash kick-panel.

thanks for the advice guys. I will look around a little more before investing.

as for the unit itself, I think i will go with one the store has that is installing it. They seems very particular when I asked them about bringing in my own stuff. They either charge more because its not theirs or wont do it. Ill do my research though.

I will definitely look into ebay for the bypass. What exactly do i search for? and how do i know it will work? Thanks
