Grinding on a down shift

I have a 95 F350. Most often when I start out I use second gear because the gears are so low. sometimes when I use first and then go to second it grinds really bad as if I didnt push the clutch in even though I did. Sometimes when I am going 10mph I will put it in second so I can be ready to go at the stop light and it grinds. My clutch is brand new. What could the problem be?

It could be the clutch is not adjusted right or the syncros and blocker rings in the tranny are worn.

You must have the ZF transmission - is the clutch slave cylinder mounted outside the bellhousing (lower L) or inside (concentric)? Some of the concentric applications suffered from the slave actually fracturing the front of the transmission, but most problems are caused by a bad slave (internal OR external type) or simply air in the system. The Haynes manual gives a detailed procedure for bleeding each type.
