Brake System question
I've been working on a 95 Clubwagon Van and I think I have a problem with the brake system. Over the past three years the brake master cyl has been replaced three times. My question is this...is it normal for the pedal to go to the floor? I've bled the system and there wasn't any air in it. When driving it stops just fine and no warning lights are on. When I push the pedal, the van stops just fine but the pedal goes to the floor. I've had it to a mechanic and he said that its the ABS system making it do that. He may be right but something just doesn't seem right. Any info would be greatly appreicated.

Id say somethin is royally F*d up. If the pedal goes to the floor and theres no air in the lines and the vehicle stops fine, i wouldnt worry. But since you said youve replaced the thing three times in the past three years, check the vacuum lines, make sure they're good. Not too much or too little vacuum assist.

Sounds like the ABS module on the frame rail. I went through the whole gambit. Master, rear cylinders, calipers, etc. Same deal as you. The pedel would settle when slowing down but the truck would still stop decent. If I was at a stop and pressed on the pedal, then it would stay up and not settle. The module is costly and they need your old core but it is a simple replacement. Two lines, two bolts, and a wire harness. You should notice the change instantly. Good luck. Jake.

Have you pulled the codes from the ABS computer? The Haynes manual tells how.
Check the autoadjusters in the BACK brakes - if the little cable is slack when you pull the drums off, the adjusters have seized.
