I am sure that you will have to remove the gas tank if you
are going to use bucket seats.I like the seats out of a silverado
like wayne said, they have the seat & shoulder belt already in them
I am going to look for a pair for my 51 f1
why is everyone switching at all? why not re-stuff your oem seats?
The answer to that is pretty easy on a couple of different levels.
First there are those of us who don't have the original seats and need to put in something so why not something comfortable?
There are those that want to upgrade their seating for a number of reasons, of course comfort is one of them.
Then there are those who want to keep their original seats and more power to them.
As there many different ways to build these trucks, there are reasons for every decision in them. Me personally I fit category number one not having seats and two and probably most important to me is I plan to put as many miles on my truck as I can just enjoying driving it so I want to be comfortable doing it.
48 Steel Like that steering colum whos is that ? also what did you do with the door handles looks like they are resest or am I seeing things.Like your buckets
I like the look of a bench seat in my old truck. The Ranger seat is comfortable. Sorry I don't have pictures of the modification but I used the 48-50 seat frame and track in my 48 F-3 with a 90 Ranger bench seat (straight bench not a 60/40). What I did was fabricate brackets on all four corners of the seat that would allow me to bolt it to the 48 seat frame. I also cut about two inches off the rear legs of the seat frame to allow the seat to lean back more and welded a piece an angle iron front to rear to mount to the floor (because when you cut the two inches off the rear legs you lose the mounting holes). I was still able to use the original tool tray and gas tank behind the seat. Leaning it back gives you more room at the steering wheel also and it gives you room under the seat to store such items as a bottle jack, lug wrench, tool box, cleaners, rags, etc.
Here's a picture of the finished product just in case it might help...
GreatNorthWoods I think your bench does look great in there. I wanted to go with the Custom look of buckets but I'm thinking working on a budget a bench seat like your would make more sense. Is your gas tank still mounted in the cab?
Here is the bracket I made to mount a Ranger seat in my 49. I used the ranger tracks. The gas tank has been moved under the bed. It is real comfortable.

Yes, I still have the original gas tank and the original tool tray mounted on top of the tank...
