Have I got the only 53- 56 Merc. coe out there? I searched through past posts and couldn't find any. We all know that Mercs weren't built in the U.S., but is this indeed fact. My 56 Merc coe has a U.S. vin number on the frame and title but glove box tag is missing. Could possibly have been recabed at some time but it doesn't seem to have been. Vin number indicates it was built at Detroit Truck plant. The thought has occurred to me that possibly all the coe's at this time were Detroit built and the Mercs for export only because of tooling and demand and Detroit being very close to Canada. Maybe U.S. built and finished in Can. If there is anyone else out there with Merc. coe's, even older or newer, perhaps they could check their vin as to where it was built. This might verify this theory or shoot it down.
Old ugly(Like I've got room to talk!), one guy who may be able to sort this for you is NumberDummy.Unfortunately, he's been off the boards lately, perhaps traveling for the holidays.Get a few more posts, and you'll be able to PM him yourself.Otherwise, when I notice he's returned, I'll direct his attention to your post.If you can, post your VIN numbers, etc.Good Luck.

It's the trucks handle not mine !!! 52 Merc and I played with this earlier (about 10 threads down) also have a pic of truck there as it sits. Here is the vin again C50V6H00000. Definitely a U.S. vin. Thought I'd try a different post to get more response.
The early Mercs were built in Windsor, Ontario but later ones were built at US plants so it is very posssible that your truck came from one of the US truck plants.

Thank you for your input. The "H" in the vin does indicate Detroit Truck Plant. I believe you are correct. It would be nice if some other Merc. coe owners would pop up with vin numbers to back this up.There probably isn't very many left out there. I have no idea how to decode Canadian vins. Will start a new thread to see what jumps up.
Myself, and a few others, have some decoding information for Canadian VINs, so if one pops up, we can figure it out. As I mentioned in a previous thread, the data I have shows codes for COE's in the earlier years, but don't mention anything about them after 1953.
