I have been putting up with this problem for years now.
My dome light comes on after shutting engine off and stays on.
First i tried the WD/40 trick along with every other type of cleaner and lubricant there is. This did not work. I then replaced both door ajar switches in the doors. This did not work. The only way to prevent it from coming on and staying on is open my door before i come to a stop and turn my engine off. If i forget to do this the dome light comes on and stays on. In order to get it to go off i have to start my truck and reverse or drive forward with the door open to get it to go off. I have been doing this for so long that it become a habit and now i do it on the trucks at work and other peoples vehicles out of habbit. Every time i look into this it involves me tearing the door apart looking for a solution and sending me into a blind rage. Then i just forget about it for another couple months while continuing to do the open the door routine before coming to a stop. Well i have about had it after someone borrowed my truck and i forgot to pull the fuse, knowing the wouldn't know my little trick to the dome light. Dead Batt. PLEASE HELP!!!!
I suggest replacing the Battery Saver Relay. That's about all the troubleshooting that's available without the computer analysis, Ford should be able to fix fairly easily. but not cheaply.
Yeah, the service manual that I have has alot of troubleshooting steps that need the NGS tester. And a lot of the steps result in replacing the GEM/CTM.
Your GEM module is likely broken. They are not inexpensive. The module 'watches' the open door switch, and uses that to short-time the accessory keep-alive and turn on the interior lights. I think there is a test procedure outlined in the shop manual that would confirm or refute my suggestion.

Well I had a feeling i would be replacing it. What am i looking at for a new G.E.M $100 would be nice but I'm sure its in the $500 range. and I'm sure that my local mech. won't do it. Only a stealer will touch it. Is it worth it. or do i take a hammer to the dome light and be done with it.
Shop on the web .. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market lists used parts at participating re-cyclers I think.
Shop at local boneyards. They'll ask 50% of list. BUT, they should guarantee the part, so don't let them bamboozle you on that.
The GEM is under the dash, can't say where on your vehicle. It is a 'plug in' module, and you can set options for all the features your unit has by using the ignition switch and other inputs. The owners manual has directions. It controls interior lights, power after ignition switch cutoff, power locks enabling once you go 5 mph, auto power window one touch down, ... I don't know what all.
Go to the library and peruse a Chiltons, Motors or other manual for specific information, or ask you local friendly Ford dealer for a bit of help.
