Hey guys, I am wondering what a 7.3 can handle? i just hooked up the boost gauge and its runnin 15lbs now. How much Boost will this motor take? The truck is stock with the exception of the exauhst....it is a MBRP 4 inch back system. Thanks Guys!!
My buddy is runnin in the low 30s with no probs so far. I was a while back on here a guy had a 7.3 with 101-103lbs of boost!!!!! But he cracked his block in three places, so I wouldn't recommend goin quite that high! haha
Im no motorhead but I would say in the 20s and 30s would be safe for a DD truck. They'll run about 17 stock.
Mine pegs the boost gauge (30#) on occasion, I don't push it that hard often. I hit 25# pretty much every day. Unless you have spectacular boost plans, don't worry about it.

True but your pcm is programmed to start defueling around 20 to 25 so you will need a boost fooler to use the higher end of the stock turbo range. You'll know when it happens as it Kinda feels like it's falling on it's face, then it'll kick the fuel back in when your boost drops then it'll fall off again..... you get the picture. There are more experienced members who can direct you to a good boost fooler. I just keep my boost under 20 as i need my daily commuter and cannot afford the down time which is more likely to occur at that end of the performace curve.
I just installed my gauge kit last night. What is consider to be high egt's? I am new to the diesel world. I am getting a dp tuner asap. Will i be able to turn the boost up with that? Or do i do it manually? My Grand National turbo has an adjustable watsegate that i just shorten the rod on the wastegate to turn up the boost...is this the same deal? I really appreciate all the help! You guys rock!
If your EGT probe is installed pre-turbo, like in the exhaust manifold, a spike to 1300 for a very short time is ok, but keep it under 1000 for extended times. Lower is better.
The wastegate is often just disconnected, but you can get adjustability with a Turbo Master from Dieselsite, for example. Boost is not the most important factor, fuel is.
Ya might want to hold off ordering the tuner until you have all your mods figured out. Those mods will require different tunes from Jody, so get your ducks in a row first.
