HPOP Level Low

What would cause oil level to drop way down ? Could IPR cause that ?

How low is it in the reservoir? How is the oil level on the dipstick? How is your truck running? I would think that if your IPR was sticking open that you would have some major running problems.

Well its a friends truck.. went by today and the hpop was about 4-5 inches from the top, according to them . Level is good . Truck just died. They replaced fuel pump today . We got the truck stated ..had some air in it and got it all cleared out . My con cern is what caused it to die fuel pump ? or low oil level in hpop.

What led them to replace the fuel pump? Do you or anyone near by have AE or anything to watch ICP pressure and duty cycle?

A leaking anti-drainback valve will cause the oil to leak down after sitting. It is a check valve in the top of the block, that allows oil to feed the reservoir on start-up. It could have something stuck in it. You can take it out pretty easily. Square drive plug below the HPOP reservoir to the outside of the IPR. (Usually hard to see cause it is dirty)

The other thing it could be is the stand-off in the reservoir is broken.

The check valve comes out pretty easy. The stand-off required the HPOP reservoir lid to be removed, not hard either, but may require a seal, if damaged.

If the HPOP reservoir is low, the HPOP will not have enough oil to fill the heads and maintain pressure. To start the truck needs to see roughly 500 PSI on the ICP sensor in order for the PCM to send the signal to the IDM to fire the injectors. If the HPOP is starving or sucking air you will definitely have a no start situation. Since air does not compress like liquids you will not get enough pressure in the heads to trigger the start.

You should check the oil pressure from the LPOP to make sure you are getting enough oil to the system. If the truck runs fine, once it is started, it is more than likely a reservoir drain issue.

Think you hammered the nail again, ken... I'm almost positive this is my problem now. Oil stick was 1in below the "add line", along with 2in low in HPOP. If not the drain back stem being broke, the check valve, should that be replaced or took apart and cleaned. thanks man.

What ken mentioned, the truck runs great, onced fired. Just checked resivoir now, and back to 1 to 1-1/2in below plug.

Do you remove anti c.v. nd clean or replacet he o-ring and seat. Or if its the drain tube, is it replaceable from within the resivoir, and if so, by chance any of you have that p/n? thanks again for any input

Another cause of an HPOP leak down can be the o-ring type gasket between the HPOP reservoir and the front cover. It will typically be an internal leak and drain down the inside of the front cover.
