Question Where can I find gap guards?

First post here. Great informative site!

Anyone know where I can get gap guards for a 3in body lift? Or how people make them (what material etc.)?

Also, anyone who has done a 3in body lift, did you have to lengthen wires? The directions say sometimes you need to and other times you dont...this seems like the worst possible part of the install...I hate electrical stuff.

Thanks

re:electrical

On an older pickup truck, usually not. There is usually enough slack and if you do have to lengthen anything, it is the rear brake wires. If this is the case, buy a towing harness, add/splice near the rear lamps and leave everything from the rear axle, forward, stock. A marine connector that melts the solder and then the glue/shrink wrap around the splice is practically bullet-proof. West Marine sells some nice stuff.

From my experience the biggest problem is doing automatic transmissions, mainly the linkage and the shifter. With ones on the floor console, they sometimes can not go all the way back or forward.

try some online mail order speed shops or 4wd suppliers for the gap guards the most common name for them are lift lips. I made my own from 6" vinyl base moulding( the stuff used to go around the bottom walls of a tiled room). i went to a home depot and bought the base moulding and small L brackets #8 screws nuts and washers cost me around 12 dollars. mountr the moulding to the bed and inner fenderwells that lets the frame flex and not rip the moulding. 6" was good for me to fill the different heights of the frame. some people use an old tire tube the same way its thinner and softer . good luck

I read on this board awhile back, where a guy used carpet molding that is used in commercial buildings. I'm sure you've seen it. It runs around the edge of walls. You can find it at Lowes or Home Depot and its cheap.
