I have 2001 f250 and I changed the oil and fuel filter and a few weeks later the truck has a slight miss and a tapping noise i have read alot of helpful tips from everyone so i decided to join this is my first time so if anyone could help i hate to take it to ford Thanks
I used rotella T I let it run and checked it it was full It started when i changed oil and fuel filter It was fine for three weeks then started missing at idle and when accellerating and has a tapping noise now Thanks for the reply sorry the tapping is on drivers side top I did a buzz and contribution test the buzz passed and the contribution test failed #8 so I changed # 8 and still the same

Changed #8 injector? You probably shouldn't have done that. #8 will fail the CCT if you have a gray cam position sensor (CPS) which you most likely do, as they had a recall for them and went to the new gray ones, which fail the CCT. Who did the work, you or the dealer? If it was a ford dealer, they should know better, and if it didn't fix your problem they surely shouldn't have charged you for it.

A snap on scanner tapping noise is quite when cold but when it warms up it is louder Thanks alot for replies sorry the dealer did work can i remove the valve covers and unplug each injector to see if tapping noise goes away just wondering
Who has the snap on scanner? Can you watch perdel readings on it?
Yes you could unplug one injector at a time. You should be warned that the wiring carries 110vdc and carries some risk when playing with electrical stuff, but many people do this type of test. Keep in mind that when you unplug an injector it will cause the engine to miss so you'll have to try to ignore that while diagnosing. You also run the risk of taking one injector off line decreasing the oil demand in that rail and thereby making the noisy injector quite.
if you go this route, start by at least observing the oil discharge from each injector. If you have one injector not spitting oil the same as the others, that would be the suspect injector.
A miss should have shown up on a contribution test. Did the miss start right after the oil change or when the temps got colder? How long have you had the truck? If you get on the freeway and hold the speed at 55 or so and then let off the gas, does the ticking noise go away? Any chip or tuner on the truck? Any other mods?
thanks I didnt know that so i will watch the oil from the injectors first yes the miss started after oil and fuel filter change I have had the truck for 3 months
