What is the best electric fan I can buy for '90 F150 w/ 351, E4OD? I'd like one that has real mounts, not those crappy tie on things. Are dual fans better than a single? What kind of CFM flow should I be looking for?

Go to:
http://www.flex-a-lite.com/
They have a lot of electric fans. Some use ties, others have brackets. Got one for my B2 and am happy with it.

i did alot of looking before i ordered mine. there is a new model out for our trucks by flex-a-lite called the #295. it is a dual fan and has the relay for A/C. i have a 1988 f250 4x4 excab with the 351w/c-6 tranny. i haul a horse trailer so wanted one that would be heavy duty enough. it is not cheap (about $400 US) but for me it was worth it. i have a fried clutch fan, a bent fan and a broken shroud so it wasn't that much more than replacing all that stuff. i figured if i get even 1 mpg more it will pay for itself in 2 years. that plus the added benefits of a few extra hp and mainly being much quieter sold me on it. should be here next week so i'll post how it goes then.

cheers,

Are the mounting brackets any good on that one? (In other words, are they usable on our type of truck)

Does the #295 stay on when the A/C is running? I noticed they said it had an A/C relay, but I'm not sure what that translates to in run times.

A/C relay means it comes on whenever the A/C is running. so long as you hook it up right

yes i believe it has proper mounting brackets so you do not have to stick the ties thru the rad. if you have A/C you want the A/C- relay so it comes on when you turn a/c on. from what i understand there are several ways you can wire these things up. i plan to wire the 2nd fan to come on 5-10 degrees after the 1st one kicks in or when the a/c is on. did you check out the #295 on the website? they also answered all my questions via email. This model was designed with our trucks in mind so it should fit and work well.

I did check out the website, but I didn't email them. I'm going to try a Hayden HD thermal fan clutch, and if that doesn't keep temps down while idling with the A/C on this summer, I'm definitely getting the #295 electric fan.

$400! Yikes. I just purchased a used Mustang GT electric fan for $40 and a Hayden wiring kit for $40 also. I like $80 a lot better than $400. Mine is also a fully adjustable temp with AC wire too.

I have the flex alite modle 260 i beleive it is. They have the ac/relay and the adjustable temp control. It came with brackets to solidly mounts it at the top and uses 3 ties at the bottom. In almost two years i never had aproblem with the mounting. Flex alite's service is great. Around Xmas the temp control box burned up and died. I wrote them and complained and they sent me one for free. The reason it died was that i mounted it in the wrong place. The top rad hose reasted on it and the heat is what did it in.
