on a scale of 1-10 they are a 20! by far its the best lighting option there is. it BLOWS AWAY any halogen bulb you'll ever use. since getting my first set of HIDs in my explorer in 2005 i have since converted all my trucks, my parents and grandparents because IMO they are much safer. plus up here we dont get much sunlight in the winter and you need all the light you can get.
if this gives you an idea. here is my excursion with 55w 8000K bi-zeon headlights and 35W 10,000k foglights. this is on lowbeam
Holy cow! Ok you got my attention. How about sending the info on the brand you been using?
this will give you everything you need, bulbs, ballests and a relayed wiring harness which is very easy to install.
the info they will need is your bulb size, either 9004 or 9007 depending on what your truck takes.
then they will need the color you want. 6000K is about the best all around color...mostly white with a slight hint of blue.
they have great prices, and there product lasts! i have not had one problem with there kits. the oldest one i have is 4 years old and works just like the day i got it.
Thanks for the info, I have went back and forth on this for a long time but always worry about product quality and how much real world improvement I would see. Couple more questions for you Alaskan... are you using stock lenses or did you upgrade to the clear euro style? Did you have to modify lens housings to get the bulbs in properly?
Snuff I am convinced it is an upgrade worth doing considering good halogen bulbs run you about $30 to $50 a set and this conversion is only $63
nope, stock lenses on all the trucks. the bulbs are direct replacments of stock bulbs. just make sure to aim them down alittle after installing as to cut down on glare for oncoming traffic.
allthough on your guy's 92-96 trucks you would benifit from clear euro style headlights. but you can do that later on.
using hid bulbs in stock housings is a nono. best used in projector housings (due to glare and focus)
hid bulbs do not use more power when running after warmed up, however to get them started takes quite a bit of power. do not use you stock wiring harness for anymore than a trip wire for a relay. any loss of current to the ballast is not good for it so it's best to upgrade the wiring.
also hid light do not like to be turned on and then off in a short time, let them heat up and then cool down before you switch them on and off. there should be specs on recommended times from the company. (this is why you don't use a separate bulb for high beams)
using them in stock housings is fine. you dont need projectors, i acutaly have projector headlights on my explorer now and i dont like them nearly as much as in my euro style headlights. i know this is a huge issue with some people but honestly if you aim them correctly you will not have a issue. i have not been flashed once, but then again i aim them down and to the right alittle.
all of these bi-zeon kits come with relay harness's which just use the factory wiring to trigger the relays, thus causing no issues with factory wiring.
Well I just replaced my housings about 8 months ago for new oem style so they are staying at least for a while.
I just ordered one of the HID kits, hopefully it gets here before next weekend so I can install them. I will post a full write up on the install and before/after pics and observations.
Good to gear warozz, I would have ordered a pair today myself but the CC I was sent has my name wrong on it, it'll take a few weeks to fix it, so I'll abuse your writeup when they finally get here.
And do the wire upgrade till then, mostly for piece of mind.
The wiring upgrade is really a wast of time if you go HID because the upgrade is already part of the HID package. All you will use your original wires for is the triggers to the relay... same as with the light mod.
Well I meant more my bumpers wiring, as it's very red neck taped together, and I can always replace some of the wiring to a higher gauge when I get the hid's, instead of relying on 20 year old wires, why not replace it when I have it laying around, and I'll be rooting around in it anyways?
