I have a 93 F-150 with the 300 I6, iv had this problem for a while now. The check engine light comes on if i am at a steady cruising throttle on the highway or a long road, or if i idle for more then 30 sec or so.

I have a code reader, but its been several months sense i read the code. I remember it had something to do with the EGR valve not working. I beleie it was code 332- EGR valve opening not detected. But i am not 100% positive that was the code.

What is the process for checking the valve, i know where it is and iv pulled it apart to clean it, but iv never messed with it beyond that. My inspection is going out and i need to get if fixed so i can get it inspected before i go back to school, and i wont be back to have it inspected until Dec.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I know its kinda a specific topic, but iv been putting off fixing it just because of that.

Verify what the code(s) are before going to deep into the this. If it is code 332 check the vacuum circuit leading to the EGR valve. Also verify the feedback signal from the EVP is within range. A DVM and a hand held vacuum pump/gauge are handy tools to troubleshoot this one.
