torque converter?

Hi im currently havening an issue with my 87 ranger 4x4 i believe it has the tranny A4LD. She doesnt seem to want to shift into over drive and when she gets up aroun 45+ MPH and i let off the gas her RPM's drop and then when i hit the gas she has to catch back up in rpm's of the speed. Is this a torque converter problem or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks have a great rest of the weekend!

You should take it to a shop & get a second opinion maybe the direct clutch is burnt too,but because it is a 4x4 the tranfer case has to come out then you can see the gov valve, you will have to remove the gov & clean it & put it back on, a manual will help point out where things are, Gigger
