ive been told u can go to 10k most people i know go to 5k i baby my truck and do 3k lol but surprised u didn’t use 15 40 thats what vie always used in diesels and been told to use
Ok. I really had no idea what to use. I'm pretty sure it is 15 30. I've also heard of people going 10k and I also have a friend that says 3k. But I figured 3k is a lil excessive since it has almost 4 gallons and that huge filter.
Should be Rotella 15W40. Most of use Rotella 5w40 synthetic.
I generally go about 6k between oil changes, but Blackstone said to extend my OCI, so I'll go 8k on this one and see what they say.
It may be 15 40. I'm not 100% sure. That was my first diesel oil change. I didn't think I was ever gonna get all that oil in there. That damn filter was so tite I had to hammer a screw driver in to it and strain my boys to turn it a quarter turn then had to stab it again and strain them again.
Wow someone used a bit to much torque on that thing haha.
Id go 5k unless you use sythetic. I go between 3k-5k on 15w40. But im due now and will prob switch to Rotella T6 synthetic and prob go between 5k-8k between changes.
You can use the 10/30 oil according to the diesel owners supplement guide. Most use either 15/40 or 5/40 synthetic. Just make sure it's rated for diesel and read the supplement owners guide for more information. If you don't live in a cold climate the synthetic oil won't be that beneficial in my opinion.
I just changed the oil in my baby for the first time. I used rotella t5 10w 30. My question is how many miles can I go between oil changes?
This is my first diesel so I will have many more questions.
You should be able to safely go 4500-5000 miles without any worries. An oil analysis after 5000 miles will give you an idea if you can start stretching to 7k-8k. The T5 is a synthetic blend. According to the bottle, the blend is better for cold weather starts compared to their conventional 15w-40 formula. I am running the 10w-30 T5 in my wife's truck right now and it has been starting up real nice in the mornings. (Was only 38 degrees this morning though..)
I plan on having the oil analyzed after about 4k miles and I'll see how it's holding up. If I like it, I may begin running T5 in both trucks (15w-40 during spring, summer and fall and the 10w-30 during the winter). In my area, the T5 is the exact same cost as the Rotella T so that's why I'm trying it out.
