Smile Shocks

Anyone recomend a brand of shock? I currently have Monroe on the truck and it seems to be riding rough. I was thinking of going back to Motor Craft. I fell like that the brands sometimes your just paying for the name. Your input would be apprciatted.

I will not talk negetively about Bilsteins because many have had good luck.I just pulled mine off and they were shot after 8 months.I went to Autozoo and bought the Gabriel Max and I think they are very good for $54 a piece. They are local and they carry the Bilsteins as well.

Bilsteins are the shocks that I would recommend. I ran the yellow ones on my stock F250 regcab long bed and had no complaints and now I'm running the 5100 brushed steel on my crewcab shortbed with a leveling kit and they are a big difference over my Rancho 9000.

Can you tell us more about the difference between the 5100's and the Rancho 9000? I just put the 9000's on my 250 crew cab short bed and I can't say I'm all that enthused about them.

I tried to adjust the ranchos, but I just could not get the ride to my liking. So I went back to Bilsteins and I'm happy I did.
From what I have read Bilsteins makes their shocks to fit the truck and weight. Rancho makes it more for the length (fits a larger application). I had Ranchos on my 87 ranger and I liked them a lot. maybe its all in my head.

I've got Bilsteins on mine. Love 'em. Better ride and handling over others that I've tried out. Two of my buddies with PSD's got new shocks within a year or so before mine. One has Ranchos, and the other, Gabriel. Honestly, I didn't notice too much difference between the two, but both rode decent and much better than my worn out stock Ranchos. Because of comments here on FTE, I went with the Bilsteins and glad that I did. It was a noticeably better ride than my buddies trucks. Like someone mentioned above, Bilsteins are tuned to our trucks.

I think part of the complication for me is, I have the X code springs on the front and that may be changing this whole equation, I just don't know. I bought a place in Phoenix and will be moving out there pretty soon, and there is a good spring shop one of the guys mentioned on here. I think I'll wait and see what they have to say about my truck when I get out there.
