(ABS)light

Does anyone know why my ABS light comes and goes? It doesn't flicker it just comes on for a few hours then goes away for a few days then it comes back on for a few hours then goes away again. Sometimes all I have to do is restart my truck and in a few seconds it goes away and sometimes it goes away by itself. I don't think it's causing any problems as everything seems to be working just fine but the light can be a little distracting. Any thoughts?

Wondering if one or more of the sensors might have some trash on the end of it?

Are you sure your ABS is working when the light comes on? I would suggest checking that first. I recently had the same issue. It was the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on top of the rear differential. This sensor is a common problem for ABS issues. It was a 15min fix and cost around $25.00. I found it easiest to remove the spare tire when doing this fix. Also becareful of the electrical connection as it is brittle when you remove it. Another FYI is some people on here have had luck just removing the sensor, cleaning it, and then reinstalling. I figured it was worth the effort to do it twice for $25.00.

My ABS light would come and go. I replaced my VSS also and that fixed it.

What I did was when the ABS light was on I found an area where no one was behind me and would get the truck up to 25 mph and anchor the brakes. If you don't feel the brakes pulsing from the ABS working then you know you have a problem.

Wet streets are a good place to check ABS.

Considering it's raining that shouldn't be a problem. Wow that was scary I just dis it coming to a stop sign. Locked up all 6 tires and killed the engine. What's up with that? Funny thing is the light wasn't on and still isn't now. I think I'm gonna start a new post about it dying!

Killing the engine at a stop sounds like it could be related to your torque converter..

Also remember that on some trucks the windshield wipers affect the CPS's ability to properly track it's "windows" on the cam gear.

If you turn them off do you have different results?

Had same issue with abs light. Replaced rear speed sensor as it was the likely culpret and cheap to fix but that did not fix it. Had to get service shop to read diagnostics codes for $30 since auto zone free diagnostics readers don't read abs codes. Had to replace front left abs sensor to fix it but that ran me about 80 bucks.
