Can someone please help me? I've got a '99 Ranger XLT 3.0 with a manual transmission. The dash doesn't have a tach and I'd sure like one. If I replace the whole instrument cluster with one that has a tach, what do I need to do to get it to work? I can probably find a used one but if the mileage it shows is much different than what I've got, can I change it? If I find one that was in a truck with an automatic transmission, will it work? What should be done with the auto. trans. shift indicator? Or should I just get an aftermarket one? Thanks for any help you can give. steeranger
From what others have said, the wiring and connector for the tach should already be there.
Get a used cluster and swap your present spedo into the new cluster.
You may have to remove the spedo needle to do this. The catch is getting the needle reinstalled correctly. If you have a GPS, use it to determine your speed and gently reinstall the needle to the speed showing on the GPS. It may take several tries, but it works.
