The tach and speedo in my 07 acted up the other day. The speedo righted itself but the tach was wrapping around and burying itself into the boost gauge. I did the gauge sweep in the cluster self test mode and it is working now. Now, my question is can the mileage and hours on a new (used) cluster be reprogrammed to match what mine is?
I would say there has to be a way, the techs on here would know for sure.
There were quite a few bad instument clusters in the first couple years, and for Ford to be able to replace them the vehicle would have had to be reprogrammed.
This might be one of those Ford only tasks.

Reason: changed wording
Yes the new one can be programmed at the dealer. My cluster was changed about a month ago, and mileage out was 5 less than what it was when it was dropped off.

IIRC, not even a dealer can reprogram mileage on an instrument cluster. It has to be sent to a certified place to be done because of the legal issues. If every dealer could reprogram mileage just think what a cluster flop that would be.

I don't know if they can or not, but what I do know is that the cluster was changed, and the mileage was a few less than what it was when I dropped it off. Not sure if the dealer farmed it out to another source or not I just assumed they did them in-house
Yes the dealers computer can do it. It requires the old cluster which it reads the existing milage from and programs that into the replacement one.
I'm guessing that if your old cluster is stuffed and can't be read, they will look up service records and make an estimate. It wouldn't surprise me if that's a function only the service manager has access to and is very tightly controlled.

The cluster that is in the truck works except that the tach sticks. That bothers me, a lot! Rather frustrating. lol
Can I bring the clusters into them or do I need to bring the whole truck in?
cant do it at the dealer level. we order them preprogramed with milage.
That sucks, all ours come blank and we have to program the mileage. We used to order them already programmed, but from the time of order to the time of install, mileage could vary significantly.
I was told it was stored in the FICM not the cluster, is that wrong? I had mine changed and it was dead on down to the tenths of a mile on the trip odometer.
