I finally got the 72 rear end under my 65 short step side, and found out the drive shaft is way short. {was'nt thinking about a dana rear end having a longer pinon or front on it} The distance from trans. to axle from middle of bearing cup to middle of bearing cup measures around 63 1/8 inches, I guess my question is will a 65 shaft work or do I need a short shaft from a 72 model. I'm have trouble finding both . I found a shaft from a 61 but it measures 62" with out slip yoke and basicly no room to slide when in stalled I need you guys to get me back on the right path agin. Thanks
Hey Roundman,
Sorry to hear about the snag...I'd have a good shop do what macgiobuin suggested, I find that if you throw a little money at a problem, it usually goes away...how much would that cost anyhow, it seems like a simple cure...? I got lucky with my Dana 60 swap, only needed the conversion u-joint with the different 60 Diff. Yoke.
Thanks guys, I've got a lead on some drive shafts about two hour drive from here. I'm going there first. If it does'nt pan out I'll have one made. Thank for the input .
