voltage issue

Makes sense. So in theory he should be able to temporary a jumper over to battery +, as you mentioned to see if everything is good. If it still doesn't work he's got another problem.

Thanks Rebel. I had the mootor running briefly and it ran fine but it wouldnt shut down by the ignition so I had to pull the fuel pumpo wire to kill the engine and now I have tried to restart the engine and I have gotten a couple sputters like it wants to start but wont. The first time it started it didnt turn over a half turn and fired right up, now nothing. I have a new battery from walmart. It may not be a hot enough battery cause I dont think my alternator is charging but dont know for sure till i get the engine started.

Maybe a really dumb question but when you re-connected the fuel pump is it working and getting fuel all the way where it needs to be?

Nathan I checked the fuel and the pump is running I can see fuel going through the clear filter just before the carb and is running about 5 psi. Another prob. I am having with my other 79 truck is that the battery keeps getting pulled down while the truck sets like something is constentely pulling a charge from the battery. I changed out the regulator and put a new battery on it and after 2 days of setting the new battery only has 4 volts. Any suggestions?

pull your negative wire off your battery using a test light with the key off check to see if you have current running in the negative cable. if the light comes on you have a short if not then you have a different problem. hope this helps.
