Hello all 1st post and am glad to have any help.
1st off HAPPY THANKSGIVING
My 05 6.0 had a catastrophic failure right after I bought it with 55,000
miles on it. engine oil cooler failed blowing front and rear main seals, luckly under warranty fixed by ford since then truck has been great tons of power coulldnt be happier.
I have noticed latley that when cold There is a good amount of WHITE smoke comming from the exhaust and truck shifts very jerkey. this goes away after about a mile then truck runs and shifts smouth as silk.
Head gasket?
Mine blows a puff of white smoke on start up (cold 36* and less). I also notice hard shifting for a little bit, but all of my automatics have done this while cold. O after putting a junk Banks 6 gun in my truck, it will sometimes blow white smoke after idling extended amounts, ie hookin a trailer or waitin for wife at store.
LOL yes I have noticed the same thing sometimes after extended idle.
wasnt sure if I needed to be concered or not. love the truck but am walking on egg shells do to the short history that I have with it.
LOL, I also walked on eggshells, just from the horror stories about the 6.0! I have come to the conclusion, that I am gonna do the best I can with the maintanance, and beat the livin sh!+ outta it. I run all my stuff like I stole it, and have no intentions of tip toein around this truck. (when I say beat on it, I mean use it for its purposes, after all it is a 3/4 ton WORK truck!) I will burn bridges when I get there.
Good Luck with the smoke issue, I hope it is nothin Major.
pretty normal to see a little white or black smoke in cold starts. the 5r110 does not shift great cold either. nature of the beast.
excessive issuse starting when cold or ficm or injector based 99% of the time.
When you say FICM and Injectors are more often than not the problem on cold startups......I have been getting smoke on cold startups and A LOT of grayish diesel fuel smelling exhaust if I have been cruising down the highway for more than 20 miles and get on the gas to pass someone or even when getting off the highway and taking off from a redlight at the end of the ramp. I am wandering if this has anything to do with the P0284 Cylinder 8 Balance/Contribution Fault. I have deleted that code twice and it hasn't come back on yet. I just drove 340 to TN and it was getting 19.1MPG's on the way down.
