I am seriously considering buying a 2000 E350 with a V10 and about 52,000 miles. The man I am buying it from used it to tow his 26' travel trailer for the majority of the miles.
My question is how long can I expect the tranny / engine to last. What are the potential problems of towing that much?
If the engine has had regular maintenance it should be OK. Same with the tranny but I would say that it is the weaker link. Ford recomends a fluid change at 30k so it is almost due again. What kind of maintenance does the owner say he's done?
Been thinking about this and I have to agree - all depends how it was driven and maintained. E-350s routinely haul around that much weight and wind resistance in motorhomes for more than 100K miles, but some are milked out at 50. Maintenance seems to be the biggest factor.
I would want good documented maintenance or a very good price and a thorough check out including compression.
