The police officers around here seem to prefer the chargers over the crown vics...much more power with the hemi vs the 4.6. But that's all local stuff on paved roads and not on the highway. They have a couple durangos for off road use.
How do you think a Taurus is going to hold up under that kind of abuse? I'll take a Charger or the new Caprice. GM tried, and failed, to sell law enforcement on the FWD Impala and ended up developing a new RWD Caprice off the Holden (Pontiac G8) platform. As I understand it the Camaro is on a shortened version of it, so can be produced on the same line. Whatever happened to the Ford Interceptor concept car of 2006 that was on a lengthened Mustang platform.
we have 1 charger. it has 11,000 miles on it, and sits in the lot as a backup car with a dead battery in it because the officers refuse to drive it if there is a crown vic to take. it is without a doubt the biggest pile of junk made.
so it has a hemi in it. big deal
the crown vics have motorolas.
and everyone knows you can't outrun a motorola.
We had a thread on it a while back..............I would be dubious of ANY fwd/awd vehicle for day in, day out police use. Especially a twin turbo awd, the abuse factor it may/will encounter will destroy it at the worst time. Ford should have brought the CV platform up to new standards with new suspension and the new 5.0.

A crown vic with the new 5.0 would be sweet. The 6.2 would be even better but not necessary. I like the crown vic myself. But it is too underpowered by today's standards. Yes it can keep up, but officers need something that has a leg up on everything else. All it has going for it, is you can beat the **** out of it. Give it some more power...and watch ford profits go up. The charger is really the only option right now besided running an old crown vic
