Can anyone explain the differences between a standard and custom cab, i cant find much info in my various shop manuals etc.
I have a 56 Panel and it came with lots of extra stuff, some of which i believe might be custom cab *stuff*
The Deluxe Cab was renamed the Custom Cab in '55. The Custom Cab features carried over to '56. They included a red or green two tone interior upholstery, dual horns, Deluxe door panels and arm rests, sound insulation, dual sun visors, a foam rubber padded seat, chrome grille and bumper, dual door locks, 56's got the trim around the side windows, stainless windwing frames, stainless division bars.

For the 56's
Only one arm rest on the drives side, NO chrome bumpers as they were black even on the custom cabs, No stainless windwing frames or division bars.
And depending on assembly plant not all custom cabs got the side window stainless
Unfortunately, you don't have enough posts to use the search function here. There are quite a few prior threads on the Extra/Delux/Custom Cabs vs the Standard Cabs.
I'd post lots of short answers and try to get past that 25 mark so you can use th esearch and use PMs.
I believe if your panel was a custom cab it would have had a full headliner all the way to the back and don't think they had the side bars either on the inside cargo area.

Guys,
thanks for all the info, makes the picture a little clearer. I have a stainless trim which to me looks like it might fit across the dash? Did 56s have that?

Could you post pictures of your panel? Is it right or left hand drive? The trim piece could be for the defrost duct, does it fit up next to the windshild?
brian...
The trim piece might be an outside windshield trim. It fit in a slot in the winshield rubber gasket. It also might be a dash trim from a 53-55 CC that someone was going to adapt. The defrost deflector strip was not chrome or SS, but it could be aftermarket.
My Panel is currently left hand drive but i am going to make it right hand drive. The stainless trim i have fits the curvature of the dash nicely and its quite thin in section, maybe 1/4 inch.....
Once i get my 25 posts i wll put some pics up, and maybe even some for the right hand drive conversion.
I have just finished doing the conversion on a 57 Chevy using the American dash. The aussie dashs were all the same 55 thru 57, and much easier to convert so doing the 56 Effie will be easy.
