Hi Guys,
I know this has been discussed before but when I searched for it I only found info in the 6.0l forum. Just wondering where you guys have found the cheapest ESP plans for the 6.4? What should a guy look for when shopping for one? Should I have purchased one before my 60,000km warranty expired? I'm shopping in Canada, although I think most cover North America, and I'd appreciate any advice you guys can provide.
Thanks
I received a quote for DieselCare ESP from a "popular on-line Ford parts guy" for $2,270. IMHO: Since I'll never hit 100,000 miles with my truck, that's a lot of $ for two years of additional coverage.
I also did some checking with CarChex and they found a provider that quoted a full bumper-to-bumper 6 year 100,000 miles (that starts when you buy the warranty). $2,100.
I have on '08. Isn't the factory warranty 3 yr/36K bumper to bumper and 6 yr/100k power train? That being the case it seems like 2k-ish for what amounts to an extra 3 years worth of "everything else other than power train" is a bit steep.
Of course it's entirely possible I'm missing the picture since warrantys and warranty options can be just about as hazy as health coverage.
Gas engines are 5/60K miles after '08 diesels have been 5/100K since '99. Fords ESP is not the diesel care warranty, of which there are 2 tiers. You must buy the diesel care, 2/100K, while you are still under the 5/100K. $2K is around the going rate for it last I checked.
Thanks for the replys. Does anyone know what the #'s are for the Canadian extended warranties? ie 7yr/200,000km or??? I looked at one site and they said that in order to purchase the extended diesel warranty I would have had to purchase it before my 3yr/60,000km bumper to bumper was up, is this the same with all extended diesel warranties? $2k sounds like cheap piece of mind to me so I will be buying one once I nail down the best deal.
We purchased our Premimum ESP 3 weeks befpore the OEM warranty was up. It is a cost vs benefits decision. Our was 1940 through our local dealer who matched the lowest internet price we were quoted.. Apparently these things can fail as validated by post on this very forum. Many of the failures are big $$$ failures. As with any insurance I chose to play the odds.
I can sure see why you chose to play the odds, seems like any repair of any significance is big bucks. I have never bought an extended warranty, but I'm sure thinking about it if I decide to keep my truck over an '11 or '12 purchase.
This is the first Extended warraty we have purchased on a truck or car. we usually do not keep a truck or car past 3 years. However we are not excited about the 2011 models of any brand and this 08 has been perfect. Any major and some minor repairs are very big bucks so we figured the ESP was a good investment.
Well I finally got a few days off work and made it into the stealership to discuss the ESP. When I bought the truck I purchased the 5yr/160,000km premium care (bumper to bumper) but I want something to cover the motor after that runs out. Best deal they claim they can give me is a 7yr/300,000km warranty that will cover only the engine and they want $4250+tax which will make it roughly $4700. This sounds a little high to me?? I am going to check a few more places but I decided I am going to keep this truck for at least another 3-4yrs so I will be buying the ESP before my 5yr/160k warranty runs out. I thought about getting into a 6.7 but I love my truck, I have 84,000km with 0 complaints and 0 problems so that made my decision easy.
