Acrylic enamel.. no clear.
I recall Ford started going base coat/clear (2K) in the mid-80s... if you ever noticed mid-80s Ford cars and trucks with original paint, their clearcoats are usually peeling off in sheets. The new technology was horrid but nowadays TONS better.

Acrylic enamel is what was used, no clear coat.
Besides Imron Acrylic enamel was the top of the line paint. The cheaper paint was a straight enamel, Dulux as duPont called it. Lacquer faded out in the early 70's but was used by a lot of body shops till the early 80's on restoration cars because you could get a deeper looking shine out of it once wet sanded and buffed.
