I have fuel dripping off my clutch inspection cover. It seems to be possibly coming from behind the flywheel.I have looked down in around the fuel pump and filter housing but it all is dry. Is there anything on the back of the engine behind the flywheel that could possibly leak?
WELCOME to FTE!!! I would take a closer look around the back of you valley. If you are leaking on the engine it will puddle up and drip down the back right (passenger) side of the engine. I would take a paper towel and dig through the cat hair in the rear valley and get all the way to the block and re-evaluate. You can also park nose up hill running and jump out and see if the drips speed/pick up.
The high pressure fuel lines, from the lift pump, attach to the back of the cylinder heads. They use sleeves to seal their fittings and are known leak spots (but not as frequent as the stuff in the valley). Just follow the two little lines that start at the banjo bolt on the pump. Some have also reported these lines leak due to abrasions (rub through).
Mine leaked through the vent hole on the bottom of the fuel pump. hard to spot . leaked in the valley and out the hole in the back of the motor and down to the flywheel dust cover. I stuffed ragges down the valley to dry it out then i could see where the leak came from. changed the fuel pump even though the pump still worked. I think I uesed a 1 1/4" rench to get the banjo bolt off the back. Tight fit but it will come. post back when you figure out what it is.
I changed the fuel pump when i had the engine out back in the summer because it was leaking. I will look very closely at the two rear lines,i already have but will again. The valley under the pump and filter housing is dry and i can see the hole at the pass corner and there's nothing wet at all.
well trying to keep it simple did you retorque the fuel filter cap. i had the same thing once. it was dripping off my torque converter cover. couldn't see the leak but it was there
I think I have the same thing going on... Hey, Iallwork, did you have to pull the turbo to get the banjo bolt off the back??? Just wondering. Think I'm going to try to find me a pump today and swamp mine out. Something in that area is leaking like a siv and I can't find it. After reading about the vent hole on the bottom of the pump, it makes good sense why everything else, lines, etc. are dry and I have puddles under the pump. Good luck D.R.800X2 and thanks for the help on here guys. This site has been a big help to me already!
Thanks IallWork... Best way to keep from dropping the plunger? I read somewhere to just simply pull straight up and that'll keep a guy from dropping it. Any other tips? Thanks again.
That's how I did mine. The plunger kinda clicks in the fuel pump and that holds it. I think the instructions say if the motor is turned over just right the lobe on the cam would be up and that would push the plunger up. but I didn't know how to make that happen other then just luck. If the lobe is up it will push up on the pump when you unbolt it, but you will still probably have to wiggle it to get it loose and push down on the new one a little.
