5.4 water pump replacement

My 97 expedition now has 99000 miles. I want to change the water pump before it fails. How long have the 5.4 water pumps been running before failure?

5.4 water pump replacement

LIKE THE OLD SAYING GOES "IF AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT". MY '87 RANGER 2.9 V6 HAS 200K MILES ON THE ORIGINAL WATER PUMP. SO IF IT'S NOT LEAKING OR HAS A BEARING NOISE I'D LEAVE IT ALONE.

They fail at around 98,000 miles...replace it..it's cheap and easy.

I have the same 32V Intech engine.
I didn't even think the pump was bad because it was not overheating. I wasn't getting as much heat as I was used to...took off the pump and the impeller was sheared right off. (It's a very cheaply made pump, using thin tin as an impeller.)

^Funny you should say that. I just noticed a bit of diminished heat myself.
