Question Brakes pulling

Heres a problem that I have recently discovered with my 1996 Bronco XL

When I first start out in the morning and for the first couple of miles, the front brakes work normally.

As they heat up from use, they start to pull to the right when I apply normal foot pressure. Not drastically or anything, but I need to hold the steering wheel to keep from changing lanes.

I did notice that the right wheel is noticably warmer than the left indicating that wheel is grabbing harder than the other but it's not too hot to touch for an extended periosd of time.
it also goes straight down the road without a problem when not applying the brakes.

I pulled the wheels and both sides have 3/8" or better of pad left and no unusual wear patterns are evident on the rotors.

With a C-clamp, I pushed the caliper pistons back into the caliper bodies a bit without removing the calipers to be sure that niether was binding or hanging up.

After I put it all together, I did a road test and it still had the same problem.

I am considering swaping the brake pads from one side to the other to see if it pulls in the other direction. if it does then I would need to replace the pads, I think.

thanks for the help,

Craterjoe

Well I did the pad swap and it seems that now that the pads are settling in that it is developing a tendancy to want to pull the other direction now.

while doing this I did find that the rim on the right side did have noticably more brake dust on it than the left.

I wonder if there could be somthing with the pads, some inconsistancy that would cause it to grab the rotor harder and wear at a faster rate than the other side (Brake dust).

Brakes pulling

Just picked my truck up today. It does the same thing, pulls to the right when brakes are applied, fine when driving down the road otherwise. I'm interested to hear what some other fixes are.

Could this be the ball joints maybe? Mine pulls left and I just had the brakes done. New parts and all. I may take it back to them and have them check it. I can't remember if it pulled before I had the brakes fixed.

the temp factor is an issue in all this as it didn't do it when the brakes were cold , only after they were heated up from use.

The ball joints would cause this problem all the time and I would think it have negative effects on steering as well.

I did notice that the brake squeal I experienced when the front end got good and warm came from the right at first and then it moved to the left after the pad swap. The slider pins are in pristine condition. (like most of the rest of the truck )

I havent had it out on the freeway yet but so far so good..

you might try and plead your brakes out if you havent done that already, you might also have a bad perportoning valve.

I would also get a new set of pads, cant be to spendy and see if that helps.

good luck
