302 distributor question

I have an 85 bronco with a fuel injected 302 that is being converted to carb. As part of the process Im swapping in a HEI distributor. When it came time to put new dizzy in I saw that the oil pump shaft is a larger diameter than my new distributor. Did ford increase the diameter of the pump shaft in the 80's? Ford garage said the 351 was different from 302, Thanks for any help

The 221/260/289/302 all had the smaller hex oil pump drive shaft for all years. The 351W and 429/460 used the larger hex. I know it's a silly question, but are you SURE that you are working on a 302? The 351W does look very similar in many respects.

post up a pic of the motor...

the 351 intake manifold is WAY wider then a 302, and the block has a 1" taller deck height.

the 351 uses a larger distributor, its longer and the base is larger around.

Thanks blueovalrage, motor is a 351, The thought never crossed my mind that I could be that lucky. I will save my 302 HEI distributor as a spare for my mustang and order another distributor for my bronco. I found a intake manifold at the junkyard for $65
