Rebuild time finally!!!

So I finally have the funds to do a rebuild on my truck. I am doing the 390 conversion and just have a few more questions I want answered from people I can trust.

1. I have found a master kit from summit racing. Are these kits any good? I poked around on there site and saw quality names that I recognized. The kit comes with main, rod, cam bearings, pistons/rings,complete gasket set,oil pump. I have a new timing chain figured in and already have a cam. The price to my door is less than 400 bucks and that works for me!

2. I have an old 390 I am stealing the crank out of for the project and am wondering how do I tell if it has been turned yet?
What are the stock measurements?

3. Does anyone know where to get a crank turned in Minnesota? How can I tell if it even needs to be turned besides looking for spun bearings and gouges.

4. Will my stock log manifolds and the 2 1/2 pipe be able to compensate for the extra cubes?

I thank you all in advance as I know people on this site will answer more than I need. Keep up the GREAT work!!!

Hey if no one has told told you yet any NAPA , with a machine shop can do it. And they have all the specs. and will check with a micrometer. If they cant do the work they will send it out.

The summit kit should be fine. They seem to throw good quality brands in them. You can't tell if the crank needs turned or not unless you measure it with a mic. My recommendations would be to let a machinist look at it. Sometimes a crank will need turned even if the engine it came from was treated properly and wasn't damaged. The 360 used the same logs as the 390 did. They will work fine. Headers would be the optimal way to go for power and efficiency but it seems like you don't care for the hassle. Good luck to you. Don't foget the ARP rod bolts and the oiling mods.

The ARP main kit and rod kit are both on the order for my engine.
I wish I had a bit more money for headers but I guess you cant have your cake and eat it too. Also, does anyone know how much it cost to have a crank turned?
