What to do with 390?

Havent been able to get on here in forever! But anyway, as some of you know im going to do the prison break 445 stroker kit to my 390 at some point in the next 5 years. Yes alot of time but college comes first on the $$$$ list. But for now, my 390 has worn cam bearings and probably needs a rebuild soon i would think. My local shop will rebuild it for $1500. Is that a fair price? And im thinking and wondering if it will be worth having a cam that has some uhmf in it put in as well at the same time. Make a little more hp out of it

Good price?
Anyone have a nice cam in their stock 390 with newer 4bbl intake? How many hp you think i can get out of it? Im looking at like a mild racing engine maybe untill i can do the 445 Stroker!

$1500 for a long block tear down, clean, machine work and assemble is a good price.

You aren't going to get a mild racing engine for $1500 though.

Ok cool. And i mean what will a cam like this do to a 390 HP wise? (mine is going to be a custom cam so below is just an example of an off the shelf cam)

Probably 325-350 horsepower with stock heads and Edelbrock RPM intake

How tired is the 390? what are the vitals? compression, oil pressure, vacuum, etc.?

When all is said and done that $1,500 rebuild will more than likely cost you around $2,000...more than enough to pay for the stroker kit.

Why not just save up the extra duckies and do it all at the same time? unless that FE is knocking it still has some life to it, probably more than you think.

Low oil pressure. And yea 2k plus aluminum heads and roller rockers and cam then porting work plus all the labor. I don't wana try to put it together myself cuz I'm not that advanced yet so I'm looking at just over 5k.

Now when I get the stroker under the hood. Can the stock d60 and hp44 handle 500hp?

Understood, so yeah, a $1,500 "rebuild" will tide you over 5-6yrs until you're ready, just don't expect huge power, it will just be a refreshed stocker......nice in it's own right, but no where near the stroker you desire.
