I pulled my 2006 Expy into the garage and shut it off today. The key wouldn't come out of the ignition socket. Started it up and tried again maybe 10 times. Tried force, jigglinng, etc--no luck. Then I noted that I had to move the vehicle in another 6" or so to close the door. Guess what!! Afterwards, the key came out.
What should I do if (when) it happens again? Any ideas?????
I have had Graphite gum up the tumblers in the past. I think I might try WD40 instead.
I agree with Red Horse, graphite is the right product. Ask your local locksmith, they don't use liquids, especially WD40. That's a solvent, not a lubricant.
There are silicone based sprays that I have used before but I always go back to dry lube.
Sometimes, moving the steering wheel back and forth slightly will help turn the ignition cylinder enough, helping to align the pins to remove the key.
