The indicator switch is more than likely stuck. Unplug it and see if the light goes off. If so, you may be able to remove it and clean it so it operates smoothly.

Thx for the diagram, I got under the truck and found it.. whole area was packed solid with snow. I am hoping it was just frozen, cleaned all the snow around it and got the truck sitting in the shop with the heater on to try and defrost it.

restarting an old thread

found this by searching 4x4 light and the diagram was really helpful. What is the best way to clean the switch, I unplugged it, the light went off and I wiped everything down but the light stayed on when I plugged it back in
PS why is this thread so frikkin wide?

The way the switch works is that as the cam (#55) rotates, it pushes in the ball on the switch. Depending on how far the switch is pushed in, it triggers either the 4wd light, or both the 4wd and Low range lights.
Clean out both ends of the connection, the wiring harness plug, and the socket on the switch. Electrical cleaner would probably be best, but I doubt that brake cleaner would cause any issues. If that doesn't fix the problem, take the switch out and see how if operates correctly. Have it plugged in and watch the dash lights as you play with it (this may take two people to accomplish). There might be an internal fault with the switch, shouldn't cost too much to replace.

PS its so fricking wide because the picture is fricking wide and the thread expands to fit the picture.
