You couldn't get a 460 with a manual transmission until 1983, it's a fact.

Well all I know is the bellhousing is out of a truck, and you guys sure can get away from the question Will a regular rebuild kit for a toploader work on this transmission?

No, the bearings are different.

Your bellhousing is a 335 series.

As weak as the 3+1 is, the T5 is broken glass.

I will just stick with my 3 + 1 then and just hot rod it. Cause I am not forking out the hundred to thousands of dollars for a ZF5 which would not do me any good.

There are rebuild kits specific to this trans. I wouldn't try the performance toploader kit, bearings and synchros are probably different.

NIf there anything like a regular toploader, then no they are not bad. I called a older guy I know last night who was a 460 in his 4spd Mach One and he never had a problem so I assume it would be like a regular top loader.

I would not be concerned about using one if it was in good condition to start with . Sure, if i was going to dump the clutch all the time or drag race, i would pass it up. I understand the shift pattern is different than a most 4/sp, but thats good . Less chance of somebody wanting to drive it , L.O.L. I just can't find one close by i can pick up to use.

same pattern as a regular 4 speed. just a dog leg style reverse is all. As for condition, mines just got a wine in 2 and 4th gear, and if you let out on the accelerator in 2nd it pops out. As for its use, its not going to get clutch dumped and drag racing, well its not going to see enough of it to be worried about.

I have never owned one ,the reverse must be what they meant when they said different . That would be no problem for me . I had a falcon with the ford factory floor shifter and it jumped out a lot allmost from day one and i bought it new, drove it 20 years . If i were in your place driving it the way i think you will , i would just drive it until it blows. Good luck. JIM

A whine in 2nd and 4th, and it pops out of gear..... Rebuild kit might fix the whine if it's bearings, but probably not the popping out of gear. That might be shaft wear.

They say the gears are cut different here, but you can't prove it from the pics:

That's why I can't stand David Kee... not sure what his problem is with the 3+1.

Home has an excellent reputation, especially from those that can't stand David's biased attitude.
