yeah my 5.4 has me wondering. it blew the plug at 63k miles and on factory plugs. if the pervious owners knew the sound it was making it could have been avoided but it was let go too far untill it finally blew and was fixed a week before i bought the truck. it was the 3rd plug back on the pass side, which i think is #4?
i've put almost 4k miles on it since augest-2010 with no issues what so ever now has 67k. i do plan to change all the plugs around 75k or so.
There is a reason why the plugs blow out on the 5.4L and other Triton heads, Poor Ford Design . PFD is a chronic ailment of these motors. The heads that have the problem the most are the Romeo head castings (Romeo 2001 and up PI head marked 1L2E). See site for cutaway view, ++ TIME-SERT, problem FORD 1L2E heads use p/n 5553 ++. The Windsor casts are fine (marked 2L1E PI heads), but will still have problems if you over torque your spark plugs. Cast numbers are above front exhaust port on passenger side and back exhaust port on drivers side. I blew out 2 plugs and had to repair with the Time-Sert kit #5553. The kit worked great and i did 2 plug holes in 2.5 hrs. Then a plug broke off in the head. You win some you lose some, then all hell breaks loose and PFD strikes again.
