1999 PSD 7.3 Diesel differences

I have just recently purchased a 1999 PSD 7.3 Diesel. When I check for air filter replacements there shows a difference of a 1999.5 or newer. By the sticker on the door, my truck was manufactured in 8/98. Can someone tell me the difference between my truck and a 1999.5 truck?

different air cleaner, early 99's drew the air threw the left fender and were known to injest water so Ford changed it half way threw the model year to draw the air threw the grill. The early 99's also have a cat, 99.5's do not. They also have different pcm codes.

Can the cat be removed? Is it providing any benefit?

If your engine serial number is 0896812 or higher you have a 99.5 or later engine.
