It has done this once a couple of months ago. cleared up and has not done it till just recently.when i start my f-150 (2000) 4x4 lariet the day after it rains,it won't idle till it warms up some. it has happened twice this week. could this be cause by the IAC ?
Yes.
Cold start should have an idle somewhat higher than abount 650 to 675.
The IAC is the device that gives the motor the air for it to happen.
If you start the motor with a little foot throttle and it stays running under your control, the IAC is not working.
Good luck.

this has only started since the weather has turned colder,it used to go into a fast idle of about 1100 rpm until it heated up some. now it does not.i have to hold accelerator to keep it running till it warms alittle now. also when i get it started,if i bring rpms to about 3000 rpms and hold accellerator to hold them, they start falling off ,so i have to pump accellerator lightly to keep running.
I removed mine and used upper throttle body cleaner on mine. Let it soak about a half hour, pour out cleaner and shake dry. Make sure it is 100% dry before reinstalling. BTW, they said at the dealer and on FTE this wouldn't work That was three years ago and no problems.
I have a 98 f150 4.2 when i start it sometimes it idles rough for about 30 seconds then smooths out and runs fine for the rest of the day.Could this be the IAC valve, Thanks for any help. It only does it when its cold outside, I have not had a problem all summer. Also if i give it gas it will slowly smooth out. Thanks
Welcome to our world.....I would suggest you clean out the IAC valve first.Sounds like its gummed up.Dont get "carried away" with the cleaner, just enough to remove the nasty,s.If this doesent correct the issue, get back with us.Im sure there will be some other suggestions....
