Hi I have a 2004 Ford F150 and when I start my truck, put it into drive, and start going it just revs my engine. But, when I click my overdrive OFF it works just fine. And I am not sure how to fix it. If anyone has has this similar problem and has a solution it would be greatly appreciated. I just bought this truck second hand from a guy and hate to get rid of it cause I love it so much.
ive never heard this one but i would see a trans shop. if it works fine with od off than i would think the heart of the trans should be ok but im not a trans guy. maybe some sort of solinoid has gone bad but thats a shot in the dark.
Actually it is a known problem. I had it happen to me. There is a clip or snap ring inside the tranny that wants to break and when it does it will not go into OD. Mine was fixed under warranty when it went out because it was ford certified. There was a thread on here not too long ago about it.
read the third post down and be sure to follow that link as that is a very good thread complete with pictures and a good explanation of the problem from a transmission mechanic. Good luck.
Rare issue but its the snap ring on the one way sprag has broken. You have to tear down to replace it. It happened to me I opted for a whole new trans as it was only 1500.00 for a reman and put it in myself.
