So Im looking for some advise. I have a friend that is going to do a frame off resto on a 71 bronco and wants me to do some mechanical. I haven't really done anything like this for money for anyone, so I'm not sure what to quote them. Here is the list of things they want to do:
Power steering swap
Front disc brake swap
Power brake swap
Manual to C4 swap
Suspension lift kit
And fixing some engine oil leaks, tune up, etc.
I have made a full parts list, so I just need an idea for labor. Another question I have, they want colum shift. From some info I read 71 they didn't offer automatics, so where could I find the linkage to go from the colum to the trans? Thanks guys.
Cheapest and easiest for everything on the front end is pick up a 76-77 Bronco Dana 44The C4 is a pan fill design specific to the Bronco. classicbroncos.com classifieds is a good place to look. Plus all the info you need will be in the tech sections.
Seeing as you stated he is a "friend" it is your call on what you want to charge him.
Typical labor rates for general repairs are around $65/hr up to over a $100 for dealer rates and depending on what area of the country your in.
Are you in the buisness? or just a knowledgable back-yard mechanic with all the tools?
Whats your level of knowledge in each of the areas that you listed? what kind of time frame will you be doing all of this? Your garage or his?
Just some areas to consider before you construct a price.
Is it a 302?
Lots of C4's in the yards in MO.
Bronk specific houses have the lift.
For the pwr brks need an angled bracket, again @ the bronk vendors.
CB dot com (C above) 'll B threads w/pic of builds, prts (in classified), and plenty of "know it alls" and good guys too. PM for more links for the classic bronk (clubs, fixit sites etc).
Good luck, let us no how it goes, any Qs.
BTW: we really like build pic and Q's w/pic, & any pic. Got pic?
