My involvement of my engine rebuild project starts for me now...today I got the block back from the shop, honed, balanced, etc. Ready to go
So I thought I'd get a book that will help me with putting this thing back together. Sure, I could do it without the book, but then (for a first-timer) you end up doing 3 times the work because you keep forgetting things.
I was reading the reviews and the one that bothered me was about how that it may give bad information regarding the valve train. Also the book doesn't go into performance mods according to another reviewer.
I personally prefer FSM's for all my rebuilds since I prefer to build everything to stock specs.
I'm sure other members will chime in with a good suggestion or two.
I have Tom's book and I like it, all the specs you need to rebuild any SBF longblock are in there. If you want something that goes into performance mods there are several other books that are usually suggested at amazon.com when you search on the book above.
I don't really need the book to determine what parts to get, I already have that info. I am really just looking for a book as a guide to tell me about things like gaskets, how to put things together, etc. Sounds like Tom's book might do that trick?
