front driveshaft question
My question is would a driveshaft thats gone bad also ruin the transfer case? Mine went out while I was on a road trip about 400 miles away from home. It did the classic clunking and vibrating especially while turning sharp. I barely made it home limping with a lot of patience and stress. I did make it home but I pulled right into a driveshaft r&r shop first and rented a car to get home. They need it for the day (this was yesterday). I obviously didn't remove mine but was concerned that my transfer case could be shot. The driveshaft end that goes into the transfer case is what broke. The bearings are exposed, the boot that surrounded them somehow came off and so did all the grease. The u-joint end will also need to be reworked. It is about the same price as buying a new one but you can't find one for the AWD anywhere, dealer wants $1500 for the part. Shop is charging me ~$300 out the door. Thanks guys..
