The sending unit only has one wire going to it.
Pull the wire off and turn on the key.
Note the position of the needle.
Now ground the wire to a good ground.
The Needle should go to the other end of the scale.
If it does this the gauge is good.
If not then the gauge may be good or bad. You would just have to test it.
