Clockspring

I have a 95 Ford F-150 and my horn and cruise doesn't work. When I first got the truck the cruise was unplugged under the hood and my horn was working until i put the truck in the shop for a sensor then picked it up and had no horn he took the airbag out and touch something with a testing light and the horn went off so i was just wondering how much a used clockspring would cost and would it be hard to put in?

Thanks Mike

They're not very difficult to install, but I don't think you'll be able to buy a used one. I have one that was damaged by thieves, but anyone with a good steering column is going to sell it whole - not part it out. Check Ford's price before you spend a LOT of time & trouble looking for a used one that may be just as bad as yours.

Alright i appreciate it i didn't know if junkyards or something like that would carry something that little. A mechanic told me about $160 for the part and labor so i was like no way. I wanna say it was used i think but i don't know.

Went to Ford today and they don't sell this piece separate from the steering wheel($140).

Wrecking yard wants $65 for used wheel.

I have 2002 Blackwood with similar problem. If you try and do it yourself, disconnect both battery posts/cables to avoid setting off airbag. I don't know if this will cause the codes to have to be reset...in a vw it does. dealers have us at their mercy sometimes these days. I would not put in a used clockspring under any circumstance...why trade one problem for another? Hope it gets fixed. The cruise won't work if the horn does not work...normal. I sometimes turn off engine, remove key and lock doors and hit key pay one more time..if the horn sounds, it has "reset" and I have horn and cruise...I have had it, cut off working as I drive along...so, it looks like a dealer call and $$$ spent. I am waiting until i get 70,000 miles and go in for sparkplugs...put them in on a cold engine ONLY or you will risk stripping out a thread on alum. headed 5.4 L...billy

I put one in my pastor's '94 F150 a couple of months ago and we got his at O'Reilly for about $65.

I'll check with Lincoln to see if a 2002 Blackwood clockspring comes separate...may be able to buy a new one and pay a mechanic to put it in. Junk yards usually don't sell steering wheel separate because the wheel is the thing that breaks in a bad wreck and the bag goes off as well...check cross-reference part. Billy
