thursday night- jay leno's comment- ( i really like it )
" so they announced the new plans for the next trade towers, 1776 feet tall. maybe we should put the U.N right at the top of it. i bet that would change their minds about terrorism! "
sounds like an idea to me.
i just couldnt possibly imagine anyone would want to work in those towers.... after 2 attacks on them. i really dont think a person should live in fear, or else the terrorists win right? but no thanks for me, ill work in a shorter building.
Actually, I know many New Yorkers that either live here or are here for the winter months and all have said that they would like to see the new "towers" go up looking exactly like the old ones. What better way to say "up your's" than that!
I'd have to agree with them on that. Doing some new-age sculptured buildings and all doesn't even come close to getting that point across.
yeah i do kind of like that "up yours" idea. "right back at ya" serves its purpose like only a slap in the face can.
i also like the HEIGHT of the towers- 1776 feet. 1776 hmmmmm why does that ring a bell... LIBERTY maybe?? sort of a subliminal message to say " America kicks a$$ "
I personally think the new plan is flat out ugly. For them to build anything smaller is just giving into terrorism. Although this may be the tallest building in the world, it has no where near the square footage the original towers had. I think that most New Yorkers wanted to see the towers rebuilt bigger and better... myself included. Instead they picked some artsy whacked out design that just doesn't do the site justice.
Speaking of the tonight show, did anyone see Dennis Miller on the tonight show Tuesday night, 2/25? He was Jay's first guest of that evening. When he came out and sat down Jay asked him right off on what he thought about this whole Iraq thing. I gotta hand it to Dennis. In a liberal environment such as Hollywood were most celeberties jump on the band wagon to bash president Bush and America in gereral, he let it be known that he strongly supports president Bush and his policies concerning Iraq. He spoke against the anit-american protesters here and over seas (the French). He was noticably passionate about his views and made it clear were he stands. Right on Dennis!

You got that right. Architecture is one of my hobbies, and its obvious that architects today wouldn't know good design if it jumped up and bit them on the a**. The one question these idiots need to ask themselves when they consider a design is this: will it stand the test of time? But no, they just hand us whatever whimsical design they think is "in." What really makes me laugh is the current theme in residential architecture: huge, soaring entranceways, 17 gables, a mish-mash of different designs, all covering a bunch of cold and impersonal rooms that no one really wants to live in. And wait till the homeowner has to pay to re-roof all those gables: OUCH! Give me a cape cod anyday...
Yeah, that's why we engineers call architects "glorified artists", because they are certainly space cadets on most issues. I'm a senior Civil/Structural engineer, specializing in Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection, and I will promise you that the 9-11 scenario will be in the the design criteria for this new building. I haven't seen the design they chose, could somebody post a link to it?
Anyway, some artist with a stamp is gonna send that impossible contraption downstairs to someone with a calculator and a clue, and it's gonna be funny to see if they can get it to work. I've seen all the designs, and I don't really like any of them. Maybe they oughtta let an American A-E firm bid on it, then they might have something that touches home to a few people. TK
This is what I found, looks to me like a we've forgotten what a 90 degree angle is, along with good looks. Why don't we design all our buildings with crayons and french curves? I say we get the origional plans and modernize them to todays standards.
